The White Sox gave up five runs in the top of the eleventh inning during a 10-7 loss to the Guardians at Guaranteed Rate Field. The Sox scored two runs in the bottom of the tenth to send the contest to the 11th, but Jake Diekman was charged with his fourth loss after giving up all five runs in the inning. AJ Pollock went three-for-five with a home run and three RBI in the losing effort.  The 76-and-72 White Sox are now five games behind Cleveland for first place in the AL Central. The South-Siders look to bounce back tonight against the Guardians.

The Cubs came away with a 2-1 win over the Marlins in Miami to snap their three-game skid.  David Bote hit a game-tying home run in the top of the seventh inning as well as a sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth to help lift the North-Siders to victory.  Adbert Alzolay was credited with his first win of the season after pitching a pair of scoreless innings of relief. The Cubs send Marcus Stroman to the mound against Miami tonight.

 

The St.Louis Cardinals managed just five hits in a 5-0 loss to the Padres at Petco Park.  Albert Pujols had two of the Cardinals’ hits in the losing effort.  

Adam Wainwright fell to 11-and-10 after giving up four runs in six innings of work. The Cards fell to 87-and-62, but they still hold an eight-and-a-half game lead over the Brewers for first place in the NL Central.  Miles Mikolas starts for the Cardinals against the Padres tonight.

 

The Chicago Bulls will have a new patch on their uniforms this season.  The team announced yesterday that Chicago-based Motorola Mobility will have its “batwing” logo on the left chest of all jerseys.  The partnership with Motorola is a multi-year deal. The team will begin wearing the jerseys with the patch during its first preseason game against the Pelicans on October 4th.

Varsity Volleyball

Ottawa were winners on the road at Sycamore in two matches. Ryleigh Stevenson had 5 kills, Mel Pries and Olivia Evola each finished with 4 kills in the victory.

 

Streator lost at home in three matches to Herscher. Top performers for the Lady Bulldogs in the loss were Emma Rambo, Bella Dean and Sophia Pence 

 

Newark won on the road over Serena in three sets.  Leading the Lady Norseman were Kiara Wesseh with 11 kills, 10 digs, Lauren Ulrich had 12 kills, 10 digs and Dani Peshia earning 15 assists

 

Earville lost at home in two matches to Indian Creek. Nevaeh Sansone led the Red Raiders with  four kills in the loss

 

Woodland lost in golf to Midland at Wolf Creek in Pontiac, Top performers for the Warriors in the loss were Carter Ruff and Mason Sterling.

 

LP defeated Princeton and their host Seneca at The Creek Golf Course.  Leading the way for the Lady Cavaliers were Allie Thome and Avah Moriarty. Top performers for the Irish were Julia Hogan and Addison Stiegler.

The 8th grade Marquette Lady Knights won at home 48-7 over Nettle Creek.
