The Ottawa City Council approved the lease with the Nells Woodland Foundation. This week’s vote was unanimous, although Commissioner James Less asked whether the city can afford its commitment. The city will pay $20 for a 20-year lease and provide up to $25,000 worth of maintenance on the 60-acre nature preserve site every year. Mayor Dan Aussem says the maintenance won’t be every day and will include plowing snow or removing brush. The site is on the hill going up Illinois 23 near Alexis Dr. where attorney Peter Ferracuti’s family used to live.
