A $75,000 grant the city of Ottawa got for downtown residential development could pay for things like hiring a consultant and research. Mayor Dan Aussem says a consultant could advise the city on a rental ordinance. City Hall could research whatever it needs to know to get more apartments or homes downtown. And the city could use its research and plans to back up requests for more grants to actually pay for the development. That grant is from the RISE program, which stands for Research in Illinois to Spur Economic Development.
