The Weekend started off with High School Football
On WCMY, The Marquette Crusaders celebrated Homecoming with a big win over Wethersfield 24-7 at Gould Stadium.
The Ottawa Pirates suffered a 54-20 loss at Sycamore to the Spartans. That game was heard on 95.3 JackFM.

Varsity Golf
Ottawa finished 2nd at the ACC Charger Invitational at Philips Country Club. Jonathan Cooper finished 3rd overall and Drake Kaufman placed 4th. Seth Cooper, Chandler Creedon, Alex Billings and Jacob Armstrong each had a solid performance for the Pirates.
St Bede won the Princeton Invitational at Wyaton Hills Golf Course. Brendan Pillion and Jake Delaney each placed in the top five individually for the Bruins. The LP Cavalier’s Carter Fenza was the individual champion with a final score of 75.
Varsity Soccer
Earlville won 7-0 at home over Yorkville Christian. The Red Raiders were led by Griffin Cook with three goals and Diego Vazquez finishing with two goals, one assist.
Serena defeated Plano 3-0. The Huskers received 2 goals from Tanner Faivre and one from Camden Figgins. Goalie Carson Baker had nine saves in the win.
The Streator girls tennis team claimed the tournament championship of the Illinois Central Eight Conference in Coal City. The duo of Marisa Vickers & Franchesea Rodriguez, partners Maddie Wahl & Mina James, and the team of Joyce Walkling & Lily Mattingly all went 3-0 on the day.
Newark competed at The Mt. Pulaski Volleyball Tournament. Top performers for the Lady Norsemen were Lauren Ulrich, Kiara Wesseh, Taylor Kruser and Aubrey Benesh.
The LP-Ottawa CO-OP swim team finished 2nd in its home Pentathlon against 1st place Morris, Olympia and Pontiac. Individual winners for The LPO team: Mikenna DeSpain earned 5th, Kailey Goetsch finished 8th, Lily Mustered placed 9th and Evvie Jeppson was 10th.
Seneca placed 3rd at the Dale Donner Cross-Country Invitational in Walnut. Evelyn O’Connor and Ashley Aslvig led the way for The Lady Irish.
Yesterday on WCMY, Andrew Vaughan’s first career grand slam helped lift the White Sox to an 11-5 victory over the Tigers in their series finale in Detroit. The Sox return home to host the Guardians tomorrow.
The Cubs gave up four early runs in a 4-3 loss to the Colorado Rockies at Wrigley Field. Wade Miley starts for The North-Siders against the Marlins in Miami tonight.
The Cardinals managed just two hits in a 3-0 loss to the Cincinnati Reds at Busch Stadium.
Last night The Bears struggled to get their offense off the ground in a 27-10 loss to the Green Bay at Lambeau Field. The Bears gave up 21 points in the second quarter and were unable to fight their way back. The Bears will take on Houston at home this Sunday.
Tonight Monday Night Football is a doubleheader. The Titans will visit the Buffalo Bills in the first game, while the Vikings face the Eagles in Philadelphia in the second contest.
College football over the weekend: Notre Dame got a win over the Cal Bears at home. Northwestern gave up two fourth-quarter scores in an upset loss at home to Southern Illinois. Northern Illinois lost to Vanderbilt and Illinois State beat Eastern Illinois.
The Chicago Fire gave up three late goals in a 3-2 loss to Charlotte at Soldier Field. The Fire are in 12th place in the MLS Eastern Conference and will visit Cincinnati next.
The Las Vegas Aces are this year’s WNBA champions. The championship is the first in Aces franchise history.
