Hydrant flushing begins on Monday in Ottawa. The city water department is starting on the south side this year on Hitt Street south to College Avenue from State Street west to the city limits. On Tuesday, crews will work south of the Illinois River from State Street east to the city limits and south to Watson. And on Wednesday crews will work all of Tomahawk Terrace and the Indian Village Subdivision plus McKinley Rd. from Catherine St. east to Dakota Dr. and south to the Southtown Mall. It also includes the 1400 block of Catherine St. Hydrant flushing will take five weeks and end on October 20th. You can click here to find out when crews will be in your neighborhood. During this time, residents should avoid running the dishwasher or doing laundry because the water could be brown from the flushing. After crews leave or when you get home, turn on the water until it runs clear.
