Illinois Valley PADS in Ottawa

City and PADS tweak homeless shelter deal

There are still adjustments in the works in the contract to sell Ottawa city-owned land to Illinois Valley PADS. The big concern is how fast a new homeless shelter could be built. So the contract wasn’t voted on at a special city council meeting yesterday.

City Commissioner Tom Ganiere says one tweak will make sure the city gets the land back if PADS can’t carry through and begin construction.

Before that change, PADS asked for the contract to call for the new building to be done in three years instead of two. Construction projects take longer these days, and PADS wants to make sure it has time to raise enough money.
