High schools allowed to try basketball shot clock

By WCMY News Sep 3, 2022 | 4:50 AM

Local schools will have to decide whether they want to participate in the shot clock experiment the Illinois High School Association has authorized. The idea is to limit how long a basketball team has the ball before someone tries to make a basket. It’s credited for making NBA games more competitive since 1954, but critics say players can feel rushed and perform poorly. IHSA Executive Director Craig Anderson says high schools can try it for some games this coming season to see how it goes.

Schools that aren’t planning on trying the shot clock experiment are concerned about the cost of equipment and hiring personnel to run it.
