The Ottawa tennis team lost at home to Sycamore.  The Lady Pirates earned wins in doubles from the team of Rylee O’Fallon/Jenna Smithmeyer and the  duo of Mika Moreland/Makenzie  Eichelkraut.

 

Woodland won in two sets over Cornerstone Christian Academy in Volleyball. Kaleigh Benner finished with seven points, two aces and four digs, Cloee Johnston  had  13 kills, one block for the Lady Warriors.

 

Results in Varsity Soccer

Ottawa lost at home to Morris 5-0 at King Field. Nick Webber registered three goals in the Redskins victory.

 

Streator won 4-0 at home over Cornerstone Christian Academy. Scoring goals for the Bulldogs were Moe Bacon, Brady Grabowski, Landon Muntz and Landen Mascote,

 

Serena got a 3-2 road win over Somonauk. For the Huskers, Cam Figgins scored two goals and Richie Armour added another. Tanner Faivre earned an assist on all three goals. The Bobcats scores came from Evin Hensley and Lance Grandgeorge in the losing effort.

 

Earlville dominated their host Hinckley-Big Rock 8-1. Griffin Cook and Trenton Fruit each scored three goals , with Diego Vazquez posting a pair of scores for the Red Raiders

 

Junior High Soccer

Shepherd beat La Salle Lincoln 4-0. Maddox Mathews had two goals and one assist; Rory Moore and Darien Gutierrez each scored a goal in the Rams victory.

Wallace outscored Milton Pope 6-2.  J.C. Armstrong and Micah Monneyham each had  three goals for the Warriors .

 

Elsewhere in Sports

The White Sox beat the Kansas City Royals 4-2 at Guaranteed Rate Field.  AJ Pollock hit a game-tying home run in the bottom of the fourth inning, and Elvis Andrus went yard in the fifth to put the Southsiders up for good.  Lance Lynn gave up just one run in seven innings and earned his fourth win, while Liam Hendriks picked up his 29th save.   

Manager Tony La Russa is still out due to an unspecified medical issue and will remain out indefinitely as he undergoes tests in Arizona.   Miguel Cairo will be acting manager until La Russa returns.

 

The Cubs took the final game of their series with the Blue Jays 7-5 in Toronto.  The North-Siders got out to an early 5-0 lead and never looked back.  Franmil Reyes launched his 13th home run of the season, and Manuel Rodriguez picked up the win out of the pen. The Cubs trave to St. Louis to take on the Cardinals tomorrow.

 

The Cardinals needed 13 innings to beat the Cincinnati Reds 5-3 at Great American Ball Park.  Albert Pujols hit a sacrifice fly in the top of the 13th, and Lars Nootbaar slugged a two-run home run later in the inning for good measure.  Nolan Arenado also went deep in the victory.  The Cards remain six games ahead of the Brewers in the NL Central race with a 76-and-55 record.  

 

The Chicago Sky won Game Two 85-77 in the WNBA Semifinals at the Wintrust Arena to even up the best-of-five series at a game apiece. Game Three will be in Connecticut on Sunday.

 

The Chicago Fire played the New England Revolution to a scoreless draw at Gillette Stadium. The Fire are in 13th place in the MLS Eastern Conference with eight wins, seven draws, and 13 losses and will visit Columbus on Saturday.

 

The Chicago Bears added six players via the waiver wire yesterday.  The Bears claimed cornerback Josh Blackwell, defensive end Kingsley Jonathan, offensive lineman Alex Leatherwood, defensive end Armon Watts, linebacker Sterling Weatherford, and tight end Trevon Wesco.
