Hopefully staring in the 2023 school year, students at Lighted Way Children’s Development Center will have a better place to learn. The organization said they have purchased the abandoned Heritage Manor building in LaSalle to have better resources like larger classrooms, sensory rooms, and handicapped bathrooms and hallways. Executive Director Jessica Kreiser says just like other school districts, the COVID-19 pandemic took a toll on students.

Monday night, the city of Peru approved a resolution to support the organization’s goal to get some of the $21 million in COVID relief money that the county received. Board of Directors Member Scott Schweickert said the project should be finished by the 2023 school year.
