The United Way of Eastern LaSalle County is once again looking for volunteers for Labor of Love. It’s the 31st year the organization is repairing homes for those who might not have the ability or the money to do it themselves. Executive Director Shelli Ocepek says along with volunteers she is also looking for house captains. She says house captains needs to be ready to coordinate volunteers. But you don’t have to be skilled in repairing things, just be able to be coordinated.

The first house captain meeting will be on Tuesday, September 6th staring at six at the United Way office in Ottawa. Anyone interested can call the United Way at 815-434-4003. They need 26 house captains because they are working on 26 homes in the areas of Ottawa, Naplate, Marseilles, Seneca, and Sheridan on Saturday, October 1st. The oldest homeowner is 93 while the youngest is 50. Volunteers will meet at St. Columba Church starting at seven. There is also a need for kitchen volunteers to serve breakfast and lunch for those going to the homes.

Ocepek also says if you don’t have the time to volunteer, the organization will accept a donation for the cause. Contributions can be mailed to:
