Starting off this past weekend on WCMY, Marquette won a thriller in football over Aurora Christian 26-20 at Gould Stadium. Quarterback Alex Graham finished 5 for 13 for 120 yards and the two scores in the Crusader Victory.

 

On 95.3 JackFM, Ottawa’s defense produced a strong performance in the 13-12 victory over Plano at King Field. Late in the 4th quarter, Ryder Miller ran for a one yard touchdown to seal the Pirate’s thrilling victory.

Streator dominated East Peoria, Lp defeated United Township, Seneca held on to beat Westville, Morris won big over Coal City, St Bede were winners at Sherrard, Mendota was outscored at Erie and Hall suffered a tough loss at Orion.

The Marquette Lady Crusaders  captured the championship at the Ridgeview Invitational.

 

At the Ottawa Invitational,  Streator ended the day by beating their host the Lady Pirates. Bella Dean had 11 kills.

 

At the Somonauk Breakout Tournament, Putnam County claimed the championship with the host Bobcats finishing in second place. 

 

At the Serena Soccer Invitational, the host Huskers won the title, with Ottawa finishing second, Indian Creek placing third and Sandwich ending the day fourth. 

 

The Ottawa girls golf team placed 2nd out of eight teams at the Princeton Invitational. The pairing of Marlie Orlandi and Hannah Duggan finished 3rd overall for the Lady Pirates.

 

The Ottawa golf team placed 3rd at the Geneseo Invitational. Drake Kaufman led the Pirates with a score of 76, followed by Jonathan Cooper’s 78 and Colt Bryson and Chandler Creedon each scoring an 85.

 

Yesterday on WCMY,  The White Sox faltered late in a 3-2 loss to the Diamondbacks at Guaranteed Rate Field.  The Sox fall to 63-and-65 and trail the Guardians by five games in the AL Central race.

 

The Cubs gave up 16 hits in a 9-7 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers at American Family Field.  The North-Siders fall to 55-and-73 and will send Javier Assad to the mound against the Blue Jays tonight. 

 

The Cardinals doubled up the Braves 6-3 at Busch Stadium and will send Miles Mikolas to the mound against Cincinnati tonight.

 

The Bears capped off an undefeated preseason with a 21-20 win over the Browns in Cleveland on Saturday. The Bears finish preseason with a 3-and-0 record and will host the 49ers in Week One of the regular season on September 11th.

 

Illinois opened up the regular season with a 38-6 win over Wyoming at Memorial Stadium on Saturday. The Fighting Illini begins the season 1-and-0 and will take on Indiana on Friday.

 

Northwestern overcame an 11-point deficit to beat the Nebraska Cornhuskers 31-28 in their season opener in Dublin, Ireland on Saturday.  The Wildcats host Duke on September 10th.

 

The Chicago Sky dropped the first game of the WNBA Semifinals against the Connecticut Sun 68-63 at Wintrust Arena.  

 

The Chicago Fire lost to Montreal 2-0 at Soldier Field on Saturday.  

 

Rory McIlroy celebrated another TOUR Championship win after finishing on top the leaderboard at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta. 

 

Austin Dillon won the Coke Zero Sugar 400 at Daytona to earn a spot in the NASCAR playoffs.

  

Hawaii claimed its fourth ever title at the Little League World Series.  Honolulu Little League beat Team Caribbean 13-3.
