A skydiving accident at Skydive Chicago today was fatal. LaSalle County Sheriff Adam Diss says the person’s body was found in a cornfield near the airport. The sheriff’s department and other agencies are investigating the case. Coroner Rich Ploch says the skydiver was 38-year old Brenton Watkajtys of Chicago.
The fatal accident is not connected to this week’s world record skydiving effort. It happened the day after the record attempt ended. There were no serious mishaps as 200 parachutists tried 19 times to fall headfirst in a connected formation and outdo the record of 164 set at Skydive Chicago in 2015.
