Newark were winners at home over Marquette in varsity volleyball. Top performers for the Lady Norsemen were Kiara Wesseh with five kills, seven digs and Lauren Ulrich with nine assists, four kills.
Also in volleyball, Serena defeated Amboy in two sets. For the Lady Huskers, Paige Sexton had 4 aces, 8 kills, Ari Tanas finished with 8 digs and Sophie Thompson had 1 ace, 10 assists.
Streator defeated St Bede and Seneca in golf at the Eastwood Golf Course. The Bulldogs were led by Jaydon Nambo and Cole Parkin the victory. Kaleb Powell was the top golfer for the Irish.
The LP golf team were winners over Hall at the Spring Creek Golf Course. Carter Fenza led all golfers in the Cavaliers victory and Coleman Rundle hit a 166 yard hole in one shot at the 9th hole.
The Serena golf team competed against sandwich and Indian creek in a triangular matchup. Top Golfers for the Huskers were Cam Figgins, Braxton Hart, Hudson Stafford and Hunter Staton.
LP girls golf team lost at home to Geneseo at Senica Oak Ridge. Avah Moriarty and Allie Thome led the Lady Cavaliers in the loss.
Streator shutout their host Newark 7-0 in soccer. Noah Russow scored two goals for the Bulldogs.

The White Sox took the second game of their three-game series with the Orioles after a 5-3 victory in Baltimore. Lucas Giolito picked up his 10th win of the season after allowing one run over six-and-a-third innings. Gavin Sheets led the way at the plate for the White Sox after going three-for-five with three runs batted in. The Southsiders sit four games back of Cleveland for first place in the AL Central with a 63-and-61 record.
Zach McKinstry crushed a two-run homer as the Cubs beat the Cardinals 7-1 at Wrigley Field. McKinstry went deep in the seventh inning for his second long ball of the season. Yan Gomes also drove in a pair of runs for the North siders , which improved to 54-and-70. Chicago sends Marcus Stroman to the rubber against the Cardinals today. In other team news, the Cubs announced that they will induct radio announcer Pat Hughes into the Cubs Hall of Fame next month.
The Chicago Sky signed their head coach and general manager James Wade to a contract extension that will keep him in Chicago through 2025. Wade was named the 2022 WNBA Executive of the Year earlier this week. He’ll lead the Sky to battle in Game One of the WNBA Semifinals against Connecticut on Sunday.
Over in the PGA, The FedEx Cup Playoffs come to a close starting today with the TOUR Championship at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta. Patrick Cantlay will be looking to defend his crown after winning last year’s tournament by one stroke with a 21 under par finish.
Legendary NFL quarterback Len Dawson has passed away. Dawson led the Kansas City Chiefs to a Super Bowl victory in 1970, and was a quarterback for the team for 14 years. He spent the next 33 years in the broadcasting booth, and is in the Pro Football Hall of Fame as both a player and a broadcaster. Len Dawson died at the age of 87.
