City of LaSalle changing garbage haulers

Republic Services will no longer pick up trash in LaSalle. The city council approve a new contract with Lakeshore Recycling Services Monday. The new contract starts on February 1st of 2023.

Mayor Jeff Grove says he is confident and excited to partner with the company moving forward and expect residents to be satisfied with their service. He says the city appreciates and is thankful for the work Republic Services has put in up to this point with issue residents has raised. The city will finish the contract with the company at the end of January.

Earlier this year, Finance Director John Duncan says the city was ready to let the contract with Republic end after receiving many calls from residents about trash not being picked up. Although the company tried to address the issues, Duncan said earlier this year that they were remaining inconsistent. The city also had other requests for proposals from other companies but decided to reject them because information like emergency pickups were not mentioned.

Another change is that the city is moving away from the 32-gallon container system and will use the LRS bins that can be rolled out to the driveway. The containers will be able to store nearly three times the material previously accepted.
