When Suzanne Shafer-Wilson finds animal bones and snake skins, she thinks about the art she can produce with them. They have become features in the baskets she has made for more than 30 years. Her first solo exhibit making knotless net baskets with wires began last week at NCI Artworks in the Westclox building.

Shafer-Wilson has taught people the craft. But she says it takes a lot of dedication to learn to work with wire and not a lot of students stick with it. She says the few who have aren’t really the competition she was worried about creating, because they do it in their own style.
