When Jerry Corcoran retires next summer, he’ll have worked for Illinois Valley Community College for 33 years and almost half of them as its president. The 15 years will make him the college’s third longest serving president. When he first applied for the president’s job in 2006, he didn’t get it but he felt it was for the better. During the next two years, he learned skills to make him more ready for such a job. And when the person who got the job in 2006 went back into retirement in 2008, Corcoran was hired. Corcoran called the two years of preparation time well spent.
