The White Sox got a win and a loss during their doubleheader against the Kansas City Royals at Kauffman Stadium.  The White Sox lost game one 4-2.  Josh Harrison went deep, while Lance Lynn was tagged with his fifth loss after allowing four runs in six innings.  

 

In the second game, the White Sox beat the Royals 3-2 behind solo home runs from Lenyn Sosa and Yoan Moncada.  Davis Martin held Kansas City to one run on three hits in five-and-two-thirds innings to earn his second win, and Liam Hendriks picked up his 23rd save.  

 

Shortstop Tim Anderson will be out four-to-six weeks after tearing a ligament in his hand. Anderson suffered the injury when he checked swing in Saturday’s game against the Rangers.   

 

The Cubs gave up two runs in the top of the eighth in their 6-5 loss to the Nationals at Wrigley Field.  Mark Leiter Jr. was charged with his fifth loss and second blown save after giving up a two-run homer to Joey Meneses in the inning.  Seiya Suzuki had three hits including a home run in the losing effort.  The Cubs fall to 44-and-65.  Justin Steele starts for the North-Siders against Washington today.

 

Miles Mikolas had a disastrous start as the Cardinals lost to the Colorado Rockies 16-5 at Coors Field.  Mikolas was charged with his ninth loss of the season after surrendering ten runs on 14 hits in two-and-two-thirds innings.  Paul DeJong went deep in the losing effort.  The loss snaps the Cardinals’ seven-game winning streak, but they still lead the NL Central by one game with a 60-and-49 record.  

 

The Chicago Sky lost 111-100 to the Seattle Storm at the Wintrust Arena. The Sky are still in first place in the WNBA at 25-and-9.  They visit 2nd place Las Vegas tomorrow night.

 

The Big Ten conference is on the verge of massive television deals in excess of one-billion dollars.  The Collegiate Conference  plans to create a football triple-header featuring Fox, CBS and NBC. If the agreement goes through, ESPN will be out of the business of Big Ten football and basketball for the first time in 40 years. 

 

There is Buzz at the Bears training camp, Linebacker Roquan Smith announced yesterday that he has requested a trade from Chicago.  Smith said in a statement that the Bears’ “new front office regime doesn’t value me here.”  General manager Ryan Poles said that the team is doing everything they can to keep Smith.  In other team news, wide receiver David Moore suffered a right leg injury at training camp yesterday.

Shepherd won big over Pontiac 17-2 in girls Junior High Softball. For the Lady Rams, Pitcher Addie Russell went six innings, striking out 11 and only giving up 3 hits. At the plate, Reese Purcell went 4-5 with three RBIs and Piper Lewis had a triple, a double, a single, a walk and three RBIs. 

 

The Illinois Valley Pistol Shrimp ended their season with a loss to the Chillicothe Paints 7-4 at Schweickert Stadium in the Eastern Conference Championship.
