TUESDAY SPORTS UPDATE

The White Sox had ten hits but scored just one run in their 2-1 loss to the Royals at Guaranteed Rate Field.  The Southsiders went oh-for-five with runners in scoring position, and they left nine runners on base. Michael Kopech was tagged with his seventh loss despite holding Kansas City to just two runs on six hits.  

 

The Sox remain in third place in the AL Central with a 51-and-51 record, and they trail the first-place Twins by three games.  Lucas Giolito takes the mound for the Pale Hose against the Royals tonight at Guaranteed Rate Field. Pregame starts at 6:30 with the 1st pitch at 7:10 on 93.5 1430 WCMY.

 

The Cubs are continuing to sell at the trade deadline.  The team sent relief pitcher Scott Effross to the Yankees yesterday.  In return, the North-Siders received pitching prospect Hayden Wesneski.   

 

The St. Louis Cardinals are adding some starting pitching right before the deadline.  The team acquired lefty Jose Quintana in a trade with the Pittsburgh Pirates last night.  The Cardinals sent over minor league prospects Johan Oviedo and Malcom Nunez.  Relief pitcher Chris Stratton is also coming to the Cards as part of the trade.   

 

The Red Birds return home to take on the Cubs at Busch Stadium tonight.  St. Louis enters the game in second place in the NL Central, sitting three games back of first place Milwaukee Brewers.

LIV Golf CEO Greg Norman says Tiger Woods turned down an offer between 700 and 800-million-dollars to join the controversial Saudi-backed tour. Woods has been outspoken about his support of the PGA Tour and has been critical of players leaving to join the LIV Golf tour.
