Jose Abreu and Eloy Jimenez homered as the White Sox took down the Athletics 4-1 at Guaranteed Rate Field. Dylan Cease allowed just one run over six innings and struck out seven to pick up the win. The South-Siders are just two games out of first place in the AL Central.
The Sox Tim Anderson is appealing the three-game suspension he received after making contact with an umpire during the game against The A’s on Friday. He will be allowed to play with the team until he has a hearing.
The Cubs managed just four hits in a 4-0 loss to the San Francisco Giants at Oracle Park. None of the four hits went for extra bases as the Cubs brought just one runner into scoring position. Adrian Sampson was charged with his second loss after allowing four runs in four innings. The North-Siders head to St. Louis to face the Cardinals tomorrow night.
The Cubs swung a deal for an infielder over the weekend. The team acquired Zach McKinstry from the Dodgers in a trade for reliever Chris Martin.
Andre Pallante pitched eight scoreless innings and struck out eight as the Cardinals blanked the Nationals 5-0 in D.C. Pallante held the Nationals to just five hits in the victory. Corey Dickerson and Paul DeJong homered for St. Louis. The Cards trail the Brewers by three games in the NL Central divisional race.
The Cardinals are getting some depth to their bullpen. The team acquired minor league reliever JoJo Romero in a trade with the Phillies on Saturday. The MLB trade deadline is tomorrow.
The Chicago Sky took down the Connecticut Sun 95-92 in overtime at Mohegan Sun Arena. The Sky remains in first place in the WNBA with a 23-and-7 record and will host the Dallas Wings tomorrow night.
In the MLS, The Chicago Fire and Atlanta United played to a scoreless draw at Soldier Field on Saturday. The Fire managed just three shots on goal while holding the United to just two. The Fire visit Charlotte this Saturday.
Tony Fi-nau is the first PGA Tour player in three years to win consecutive regular season events after cruising to victory at the Rocket Mortgage Classic in Detroit. Finau won the 3M Open last weekend.
Over in NASCAR, Tyler Reddick won the Verizon 200 at The Brickyard in Indianapolis.
Basketball legend Bill Russell is dead at the age of 88. Russell’s family announced the passing of the former Celtics great yesterday. Russell won eleven NBA championships, five league MVP awards and also became the first Black head coach in the NBA.
