By Billy Thompson Jul 29, 2022 | 9:07 AM

The White Sox are back at home to host the Oakland A’s for a weekend series at Guaranteed Rate Field.  The Southsiders split a two-game series with the Rockies earlier this week, and they’re currently the third-place team in the AL Central at 49-and-49.  However, they only trail first-place Minnesota by three games.

The Cubs managed just three hits in a 4-2 loss to the San Francisco Giants at Oracle Park.  Patrick Wisdom’s two-run home run in the seventh drove in the Cubs only runs.  Justin Steele was charged with his seventh loss after giving up four unearned runs in three-and-two-thirds innings.  The Cubs drop to 40-and-58, and will send Marcus Stroman to the mound against the Giants tonight.

The Cardinals begin a weekend road series against the Washington Nationals at the Nationals Park tonight.  St. Louis split its two-game series with the Toronto Blue Jays earlier this week, and the Cards are three games back of Milwaukee for first place in the NL Central with a 52-and-47 record.  Miles Mikolas starts for the Red Birds tonight.

The Chicago Sky will try to get back in the win column when they host the New York Liberty at Wintrust Arena tonight.  The Sky lost to the Las Vegas Aces and are still in first place in the WNBA at 21-and-7.

In Major League Soccer, the Chicago Fire go for their fourth win in a row when they host the Atlanta United at Soldier Field tomorrow. The Fire are in ninth place in the Eastern Conference with seven wins, five draws, and ten losses.

Over in the PGA, two players are tied atop the leaderboard after the first round of the Rocket Mortgage Classic.  Tony Finau and Taylor Pendrith are leading the way after finishing eight under par at the Detroit Golf Club.

The NASCAR Cup Series will head to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway this weekend for the Big Machine Vodka 400 at the Brickyard.

The NHL and Adidas are parting ways after the 2023 season. The sides had originally agreed to a seven-year deal in 2017 after the NHL parted ways with Reebok.
