It took jurors more than three hours to convict a Kernan man of aggravated discharge of a firearm, reckless discharge of a firearm, and unlawful possession without a FOID card. LaSalle County Sheriffs were called to the home of 28-year old Steven Shelly on February 5th last year.
After an investigation, they determined that Shelly confronted two men with a shotgun at his home. After a fight started Shelly lost control of the shotgun and pulled out a handgun and shot at the two men. Neither of them were hurt. Shelly did testify during his trial, although it wasn’t enough for jurors to find him not guilty. Judge H. Chris Ryan set a sentencing date for September 22nd.
