The White Sox are back above .500 after a 2-1 win over the Rockies at Coors Field.  Liam Hendriks stranded Colorado’s tying run at first to pick up his 19th save of the season.  Michael Kopech improved to 4-and-6 after tossing five-and-a-third scoreless innings.  Yasmani Grandal had three hits in the victory, while Yoan Moncada and AJ Pollock each drove in a run.  The 49-and-48 South-Siders are three games behind Minnesota for first place in the AL Central.

 

The Cubs scored three first-inning runs during their 4-2 win over the Pirates at Wrigley Field.  Seiya Suzuki hit his eighth home run of the season, while Ian Happ had two RBIs in the victory.  Keegan Thompson went seven innings to earn his eighth win, and Mychal Givens picked up his second save.  The 40-and-57 Cubs go up against the Giants tomorrow night. 

 

George Springer blasted a grand slam in the sixth inning as the Blue Jays beat the Cardinals 10-3 in Toronto.  Dylan Carlson homered and drove in two runs for the Cards in the losing effort. Jordan Hicks was tagged with the loss in relief for St. Louis who are now 51-and-47.

 

The Chicago Sky couldn’t bring home this year’s Commissioner’s Cup.  The Sky lost to the Las Vegas Aces 93-83 at Wintrust Arena in an exhibition contest that has the best team from the Eastern Conference go against the best team from the Western Conference. The Sky remain in first place  at 21-and-7, and will host the New York Liberty on Friday. 

 

The Bears are bolstering their offensive line.  The team signed offensive tackle Riley Reiff to a one-year contract yesterday.  Reiff started 12 games with the Bengals during his 11th year in the league last season.  The Bears continue training camp today. 

Jonathan Toews’ days with the Chicago Blackhawks may be numbered.  The Blackhawks center said in the interview that he’s not happy about being part of a five-year rebuild at this stage in his career. Toews has been with the Hawks since 2007.
