Updated: Young people can go to Pistol Shrimp baseball games without adults after all. A team policy requiring them to be accompanied was rescinded hours after it was announced yesterday when Peru city officials cried foul. Home games are played at Veterans Memorial Park, owned by the city. The team still says it’s a good idea for adults to supervise their children who may not know to watch out for foul balls and other dangers. The earlier announcement said requiring adults to be with kids under age 16 was also to prevent disruptive behavior.

Earlier version of the story: Worried about problems young people have or might cause, the Pistol Shrimp baseball team has a new rule. No one under 16 is allowed at home games at Veterans Memorial Park in Peru without an adult. A team announcement says that’s to protect them from the risk of being at a sporting event and to eliminate disruptive and dangerous behavior by unsupervised children. Risks from being at the event could include being hit by a ball. Signs at the park warn of the possibility. No specific risks were talked about in the team announcement.
