Five boaters okay after accident on LaSalle Lake

Four adults and a 12-year old survived a boating accident at LaSalle Lake Saturday morning. Conservation Police Sgt. Phil Wire says thunderstorms caused wind and waves. The boat was sinking when it came up against a dike in the lake. Three of the people who’d been on it made it back to the shore. The other two were stranded on the dike.

It took some time to find and rescue them. They were inside a secured area of the LaSalle Station nuclear power plant, so arrangements had to be made for a tow truck to get in and remove the boat. There was also another storm during the search for them. Wire says the boaters were there since before the entrance gates were closed because of the high winds and dangerous water conditions.
