Ottawa holds ribbon cutting held for newly designed DiscGolf Course at Fox River Park

Ottawa Commissioner Marla Pearson says the newly reconfigured DiscGolf course in Fox River Park is something residents can be truly proud of. City council members, Ottawa Recreation board members, and DiscGolf players held a ribbon cutting ceremony for the redesigned course Thursday. The course has nine holes, although players can start at one end and then go back through the course at the other end to make it eighteen holes. Course designer Dana Vicich says the sport is similar to golf when it comes to the discs. Discs are more aerodynamic and  can be used for driving, putting, and mid-range.

DiscGolf player Christopher Stone also says there are ways to maneuver around hazards. In regular golf it’s sand traps and water. But in Disc Golf, it’s trees.

Vicich says he got into disc golf after he decided one day to purchase some discs and tried to play at the original course built in 2002. He says he loves the city and wanted the disc golf course to be as good as it can be, which is why he helped redesign the course. Stone says he also started one day by purchasing some discs and started playing in Ottawa. He says he enjoys the camaraderie of the sport and being outside for exercise.
