The White Sox held the Minnesota Twins to just one hit in an 11-0 win at Target Field. Dylan Cease struck out eight over seven innings to earn his ninth win of the season. Yoan Moncada, Andrew Vaughn, and Josh Harrison all went deep in the victory as the Pale Hose improved to 46-and-46.
The Sox are in third place in the AL Central, just three games behind the first place Twins. The South-Siders host the Guardians when they return from the All-Star break on Friday.
The Cubs scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the eighth to beat the New York Mets 3-2 at Wrigley Field. Nico Hoerner hit an RBI single to put North-Siders up before David Robertson tossed a scoreless ninth to earn his 13th save. Rowan Wick earned his second win out of the bullpen.
The Cubs head into the break as the fourth-place team in the NL Central at 35-and-57.
The Cubs and the White Sox are adding to their farm system through the MLB Draft. The Cubs selected Oklahoma pitcher Cade Horton with the seventh overall pick, while the White Sox drafted local high school pitcher Noah Schultz with the 26th pick. Schultz graduated from Oswego High School this past year and is currently playing for the Illinois Valley Pistol Shrimp. The MLB Draft continues today.
The Cardinals are heading into the All-Star Break as the second-place team in the NL Central. They’re scheduled game against the Cincinnati Reds was postponed due to the weather. The game will be made up as part of a split doubleheader in September.
The Cards are a half-game back of first-place Milwaukee with a 50-and-44 record at the break. In other team news,the Cardinals selected Oregon State pitcher Cooper Hjerpe with the 22nd overall pick in the first round of the MLB Draft.
The Chicago Bulls beat the 76ers 119-104 in a Summer League contest over the weekend. The Bulls first-round pick Dalen Terry left the game with a hamstring injury.
The Chicago Sky used a strong fourth quarter to beat the Dallas Wings 89-81 at the College Park Center. The Sky are in first place in the WNBA with a 19-and-6 record and will play against the Storm at home on Wednesday.
The Chicago Fire have sparked a winning streak following a 1-0 win over the Sounders at Soldier Field. The Fire are in 12th place in the MLS Eastern Conference with six wins, five draws, and ten losses and will visit Vancouver this upcoming Saturday.
