The White Sox went 1-and-1 in their doubleheader against the Cleveland Guardians at Progressive Field. In game one, the South-Siders managed just three hits in a 4-1 loss. Davis Martin fell to 1-and-3 after allowing four runs in six innings.
The White Sox fared much better in game two, as Dylan Cease tossed five-and-two-thirds scoreless innings in a 7-0 victory. Cease earned his eighth win of the season, while Jose Abreu, Josh Harrison, and Luis Robert all went deep. The Pale Hose are now 42-and-45 after the double-header split,
The Cubs are continuing their struggles after a 4-2 loss to the Orioles at Wrigley Field. The Cubs took an early 2-0 lead thanks to Ian Happ’s solo home run in the first and an RBI single from Alfonso Rivas in the second. Adrian Sampson was rocky in his first loss of the season, giving up three runs in five-and-a-third innings in the losing effort as the Cubs dropped to 34-and-53. Justin Steele returns to the mound to start against Baltimore tonight.
The Cardinals held off a late rally from the Los Angeles Dodgers in a 7-6 win at Busch Stadium. Giovanny Gallegos stranded the Dodgers’ potential game-tying run at first in the ninth after giving up a solo home run earlier in the inning to pick up his tenth save of the season. Johan Oviedo earned his second win out of the bullpen. Albert Pujols hit the 685th home run of his career in the victory, and Nolan Gorman launched the eighth of his rookie campaign. The Cards improve to 48-and-42, and will send Adam Wainwright to the mound against Los Angeles tonight.
The Chicago Bulls won their second game of Summer League action with a 93-83 victory over the Raptors yesterday. The Bulls are back in action against the Hornets tomorrow night.
The Chicago Sky started off the second half of the WNBA season on a strong note, beating the Atlanta Dream 90-75 at Wintrust Arena. The Sky remain in first place in the WNBA with a 17-and-6 record and will visit the Sparks tomorrow night.
The Chicago Fire will try to avoid a third consecutive loss when they take on Toronto at Soldier Field tonight. The Fire are in last place in the MLS Eastern Conference with four wins, five draws, and ten losses.
One of the best defensemen in Blackhawks History is stepping away from the ice. Duncan Keith announced his retirement yesterday following a 17 year career in the NHL. Keith spent the first 16 seasons with the Hawks where he won three Stanley Cups. The All Star defensemen spent his final season with the Edmonton Oilers this past year.
The Bears acquired wide receiver N’Keal Harry from the New England Patriots in exchange for a seventh-round draft pick in 2024. The former first round pick is entering his fourth season of a mostly disappointing NFL career. Last year, Harry caught just 12 passes for 184 yards and no scores.
