Water and sewer connection rates could increase in Marseilles

Sewer and water connection rates could be going up in Marseilles, but not for all residents. Mayor Jim Hollenbeck says it will be for people who live off of Rutland St and had the chance to connect to the new water and sewer extension but didn’t. He says basically anyone not in the city limits now or builds property in the area will be on the new rate.

Residents will have to pay a total of $15,000 to connect to the water and sewer lines. But Hollenbeck says residents who have already connected or have annexed into the city will pay the original rate of $2,400. He says the city is trying to make some money back from the $4.5 million investment in the new water and sewer extension project.

The city council voted to place the ordinance on file Wednesday. The vote to increase water and sewer connection rates could happen at the next meeting.
