Ottawa completes plan to improve trees around the city

In Ottawa, about a third of the trees in the area are Maple Trees. But according to Great Lakes Urban Forestry Management, that’s way too high and needs to be improved.

The city has completed their first Urban Forestry Management Plan that outlines goals and best management practices to help the city manage trees. The plan helps the city decide how they are going to plant more trees and take care of trees so the city can do its part to maximize tree cover and help the environment against climate change.

Some parts of the plan include updating tree ordinances and increasing the diversity of different trees by 2032. The city has a little more than 5,300 trees in parkways, right-of-ways, and parks. You can find a link to read the full plan by clicking here.
