The White Sox couldn’t connect against Shohei Ohtani in a 4-1 loss to the Angels in Anaheim.  Ohtani struck out 11 Sox hitters in five-and-two-thirds innings.  The Southsiders’ only run came on a wild pitch in the top of the eighth, although Jose Abreu had a strong showing at the plate with four hits.  Michael Kopech gave up three earned runs and another unearned run in five-and-a-third innings to get tagged with the loss.  The 35-and-39 White Sox sit in third place in the AL Central, and they’re six games behind first-place Minnesota. The Pale Hose travel to San Francisco to take on the Giants tomorrow night.

 

The Cubs launched a pair of home runs in their 8-3 win over the Reds at Wrigley Field.  Willson Contreras and Christian Morel each went deep in the victory as the North-Siders got out to a six run lead through six innings.  Justin Steele earned his third win after giving up just one run in five innings.  The Cubs have won two of its last three to improve to 29-and-46 and will send Kyle Hendricks to the mound against the Reds tonight.

 

Ryan Helsley gave up a go-ahead two-run home run in a 4-3 loss to the Miami Marlins at Busch Stadium.  Helsley was charged with his first loss of the season after Avisail Garcia took him deep with two outs in the top of the ninth.  The Cardinals entered the inning with a one-run lead thanks to a pair of RBIs from Dylan Carlson and another RBI from Brendan Donovan. The Red Birds drop to 43-and-35, and now trail Milwaukee by a game-and-a-half in the NL Central race and will travel to Philadelphia for a game against the Phillies tomorrow night.

 

Candace Parker had another big game as the Chicago Sky beat the Connecticut Sun 91-83 at the Wintrust Arena.  Parker becomes the first player in WNBA history to tally over six-thousand career points, three-thousand career rebounds, and fifteen-hundred career assists.  The Sky are in second place with a 14-and-5 record.

 

The Chicago Fire beat Philadelphia Union 1-0 in the MLS at Soldier Field. The Fire moved up to 13th place in the Eastern Conference with four wins, five draws, and eight losses and will visit San Jose on Sunday.

 

Results in tennis from the grass courts at Wimbledon.  On the men’s side, top-seeded Novak Djokovic  rolled into the third round, while third-seeded Casper Ruud was upset by Ugo Humbert.  American John Isner advanced after knocking out Andy Murray in four sets.  On the women’s side,  Americans Jessica Pegula and Alison Riske both advanced with victories.

 

The PGA Tour is hitting the links at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Illinois for this weekend’s John Deere Classic.  Lucas Glover will be looking to defend his crown after winning last year’s tournament.
