Low turnout for a summertime primary

Most election judges who spoke to WCMY News this morning said turnout was low. For primaries, that’s not unusual.

Election judges’ duties are to register voters, make sure voters are voting in the right precinct, and make sure their ballots are counted. A few election judges said they think some people they know are switching parties today to spoil things for the other side.

In the Somonauk and Leland school districts, voters don’t have to choose parties if they want to vote only on a referendum. But most are.

An election judge at Serena Township Hall didn’t seem to understand the question about how many voters are asking for non-partisan ballots on the sanitary sewer district.

Voting continues until 7pm tonight.
