The White Sox were blanked in their series opener.  Chicago fell 4-0 to the Orioles at Guaranteed Rate Field.  Johnny Cueto was tagged with his fourth loss after allowing three runs over five-and-a-third innings.  The White Sox combined for nine hits, but left 11 runners on base in the loss.  Chicago drops to 33-and-35 and sends right-hander Michael Kopech to the mound tonight. 

 

The Cubs dropped their road series finale.  Chicago fell 8-7 to the Pirates in 10 innings in Pittsburgh.  Michael Chavis drove in the game-winning run for Pittsburgh in extras.  Scott Effross was tagged with the loss after allowing the unearned run in an inning and a third of relief.  Nico Hoerner and Alfonso Rivas each drove in a pair of runs for the Cubs in defeat. Chicago fell to 26-and-44 and visits the Cardinals tonight.  Right-hander Kyle Hendricks gets the start.

 

The White Sox and Cubs are both losing players to a season-ending injury.  The White Sox lost infielder Danny Mendick to a torn ACL in his right knee.  Mendick suffered the injury in Wednesday’s loss and had been batting .289 with three home runs and 15 RBI this season.  Meanwhile, the Cubs reportedly lost relief pitcher Ethan Roberts to Tommy John surgery.  The rookie had pitched seven-and-two-thirds innings and had an 8.22 ERA. 

 

The Cardinals are coming up short in Milwaukee.  St. Louis fell to the Brewers 6-4.  Lars Nootbar homered for St. Louis.  Dakota Hudson allowed five runs over four and a third innings to take the loss for the Cardinals.  St. Louis is 40-and-32.

 

The Sky crushed the Sparks 82-59 in Los Angeles.  Courtney Vandersloot and Azura Stevens each scored 15 points and Candace Parker tallied a triple-double with 10 points, 10 assists and 14 rebounds.  The Sky dominated the first quarter and didn’t let up as they improved to 12-and-5.  Chicago hosts the Minnesota Lynx on Sunday night. 

 

 The Bulls are adding some depth to their back court.  Chicago selected Arizona guard Dalen Terry with the 18th overall pick of the NBA Draft.  Terry averaged 8 points and 4.8 rebounds per game last season and shot 36.4-percent from deep.  The 6-foot-7 guard was the lone player the Bulls drafted and brings some defensive talent to the team.  Terry was selected to the Pac-12 All-Defensive Team last season. 

 

 The College World Series championship series is set.  For the first time in program history the Ole Miss Rebels are heading to the finals.  Ole Miss advanced to the national championship after eliminating Arkansas 2-0 in a winner-take-all game.  The Rebels have gone 8-and-1 in the postseason after making the NCAA Tournament as an at-large team.  Ole Miss will be facing Oklahoma in the finals after the Sooners eliminated Texas A&M. The best-of-three championship series gets started on Saturday. 

 

NASCAR rolls through Nashville Superspeedway for the Ally 400 on Sunday.  It’s the first race for the Cup Series after an off week for Father’s Day.  Daniel Suarez enters the race with plenty of momentum.  Suarez picked up his first career win at Sonoma last time out.
