The White Sox overcame three separate deficits to beat the Toronto Blue Jays 7-6 in 12 innings at Guaranteed Rate Field.  Josh Harrison hit the walk-off single in the bottom of the 12th after the South-Siders tied the game in the bottom of the ninth, tenth, and 11th innings.  Luis Robert drove in four runs in the victory, while Vince Velasquez picked up the win out of the bullpen. 

 

The Cubs struggled at the plate in a 7-1 loss to the Pirates at PNC Park.  Patrick Wisdom drove in the North-Siders only run with a solo home run in the top of the fourth.  Matt Swarmer was charged with the loss after allowing four earned runs and an unearned run in four innings.

The Cubs have dropped 13 of their last 15 games and remain in fourth place in the NL Central at 25-and-43 and will send Keegan Thompson to the mound against the Pirates tonight.  In other team news, the Cubs traded pitcher Eric Stout to the Pirates for cash, and the club optioned pitcher Caleb Kilian to make room to call up pitcher Mark Leiter Jr. from Iowa. 

 

Nolan Gorman had a dominant day at the plate to lead the Cardinals to a 6-2 win over the Brewers at American Family Field.  Gorman went four-for-four with a pair of home runs and four RBI.  His go-ahead shot in the fourth inning put St. Louis up for good in the victory.  Zack Thompson earned the win in relief as the Cards are now tied with Milwaukee for first place in the NL Central at 39-and-31.  Adam Wainwright starts for the Cardinals against the Brewers tonight. 

Paul Goldschmidt is being recognized for his stellar play last week.  The Cardinals first baseman was named the National League Player of the Week by the MLB yesterday.

 

Notre Dame’s baseball season is over following a 5-1 loss to Texas A&M at the College World Series. The Fighting Irish finishes a successful 2022 season with a 41-and-17 record and an appearance in the College World Series

 

The Lightning are looking to even things up in the Stanley Cup Final.  The two-time defending champions host the Avalanche for Game Four tonight in Tampa.  The Lightning made a statement in Game Three with a 6-2 win and cut their series deficit to 2-1.  The Avalanche have yet to lose consecutive games this postseason and will be hoping to extend their dominance on the ice.

 

The Chicago Sky made the biggest comeback in the history of the WNBA to beat the Las Vegas Aces 104-95 at Michelob Ultra Arena.  The Sky overcame a 28-point deficit after trailing 51-23 in the second quarter. The Sky will visit the Sparks tomorrow night. 

 

NFL news

The Chicago Bears placed offensive lineman Dakota Dozier on injured reserve yesterday.  Dozier injured himself last Tuesday at minicamp practice.  He spent the last three seasons with the Minnesota Vikings.
