There is a new group in Ottawa that allows immigrants in LaSalle County to get free or low cost legal immigration services. Valley Immigrant Advocates was started in 2020 by Attorney and Executive Director John Breslin. He says that there weren’t any other law firms in the Illinois Valley that had these services, and there was a need.
Breslin says the closest similar service for immigrants is in Chicago. In order to introduce the office to the community, the group is hosting an open house on Saturday, July 2nd from 11 am to 3 pm.
Breslin says people will be able to meet the staff and board, learn more about the office, and enjoy refreshments. Their office is located where the United Way used to be at 1400 LaSalle Street in Ottawa.
The office has also recently joined the Ottawa Area Chamber Commerce. Breslin says he got a call from Executive Director Jeff Hettrick.
