Streator City Council favoring American Medical Response to staff ambulance service

The Streator City Council is looking to sign a contract with American Medical Response or AMR to staff the ambulance service they want to bring in house. Commissioner Jacob Darby explained why he thinks AMR is the best option. He say he like the benefits packages for staff and that the letters of recommendation seem to be more personal compared to Paramedics Services of Illinois, which also gave the city a bid to provide staff.

Mayor Tara Bedei said that both of the company’s bids were similar so either would have worked for the city. She also says there is another benefit that AMR offers because they are a national company.

The next step is for City Manager David Plyman to set up a three year contract with AMR. Bedei says the council could have another special meeting to approve the contract. If a three year deal is reached, the city would purchase the equipment like ambulances and stretchers. AMR would provide the staff.

The idea to bring ambulance service in house began when ambulance company AMT announced it’s costing too much to continue to run in the city.
