The city of Streator wants to move its public works facility out of the flood plain. Mayor Tara Bedei says it would be moved from Murdock Street into the Knoedler Building at the corner of E. Broadway Street and Iowa Ave.

The city approved applying for funding from the Hazard Mitigation Grant program through the Federal Emergency Management Agency so they try and rehab the Knoedler building. City Manager David Plyman says there is a levee protecting the public works department on Murdock Street, but it’s not up to FEMA standards. He also said last week the there hasn’t been any major improvements on the Knoedler building for several years.

He says the cost will be pretty significant, so the grant should be able to help. The overall project could cost around two million dollars to complete.
