The Chicago White Sox nearly came back in a 4-3 loss to the Astros at Minute Maid Park.  The Southsiders scored twice in the top of the eighth to make it a one-run game, but they were unable to score the equalizer.  Michael Kopech lasted just five innings after giving up four runs and was tagged with his third loss.  The White Sox are in third place in the AL Central with a 31-and-33 record.

 

Lance Lynn will take the mound against Toronto at home tonight.  Tim Anderson is expected to play in the game after spending the last two weeks on the 10-day injured list.  Pregame starts at 6:30 with the first pitch at 7:10 on 93.5 1430 WCMY

 

The Cubs managed just six hits in a 6-0 loss to the Braves at Wrigley Field.  Ian Happ had two singles in the losing effort and Kyle Hendricks was tagged with the loss after giving up six runs in four-and-a-third innings.  The biggest bright spot for The North-Siders was reliever Adrian Sampson, who allowed just one hit in four-and-two-thirds scoreless innings out of the pen.  The Cubs fall to 25-and-41, and they send Caleb Kilian to the mound tonight at Pittsburgh.  

 

A late Cardinals rally came up just short as St. Louis lost to the Red Sox 6-4 at Fenway Park.  St. Louis scored three runs in the top of the ninth to make it a two-run game, but the potential game-tying run struck out to end the game.  Juan Yepez hit a three-run home run in the losing effort, and Tyler O’Neill finished the game with three hits.  The Cardinals fall to 38-and-30 and are now tied with the Milwaukee Brewers for first place in the NL Central.  

 

Tyler O’Neill may miss some time.  The Cardinals outfielder left yesterday’s game against the Red Sox with hamstring tightness after hitting a double in the top of the ninth.

 

The Notre Dame baseball team lost its second round match-up against Oklahoma 6-2 at the College World Series yesterday. The Fighting Irish take on Texas A&M in an elimination game tomorrow afternoon. 

 

The Chicago Sky lost a tight game with the Indiana Fever 89-87 at Indiana Farmers Coliseum. The Sky fall to 10-5 and will take on the Aces tomorrow night. 

 

The Lightning are looking to strike back in the Stanley Cup Final.  The two-time defending champions host the Avalanche for Game Three tonight in Tampa.  Colorado enters with momentum on its side after crushing Tampa Bay 7-0 in Game Two to take a 2-0 series lead.  The Lightning will look to recapture their magic from the Eastern Conference Finals as they overcame a 2-0 deficit to eliminate the New York Rangers and advance. 

 

Over in the PGA, Matt Fitzpatrick celebrated his first major tournament victory,  By winning the US Open at the Country Club in Brookline.  

 

The Swimming’s world governing body FINA is voting to restrict the participation of transgender athletes in elite women’s competitions.  The new policy would require transgender swimmers to have completed their transition by 12 years old in order to compete in the women’s division.
