Ten homes in Marseilles will be renovated through grant from the state

The city of Marseilles will allow ten homeowners the chance to get $50,000 for home improvements. The city was one of four cities that received a $550,000 Community Development Block Grant.

Mayor Jim Hollenbeck says the city will have meetings that will lay out the requirements for applying. He says residents can’t sell the house after five years and have to be low to moderate income. Residents who are disabled also qualify.

The project will between from Main Street east to Chicago Street and Bluff Street south to the river. The money can be used for different home improvements like new appliances, handicap accessibility, and electric and plumbing work. Although Hollenbeck says public safety issues will be addressed first.

The North Central Illinois Council of Governments, which helped the city apply for the grant, will hold the meetings in late September or early October to explain more details. If a homeowner gets picked, NCICG says construction is tentatively scheduled for spring of 2023.
