Utica Fire Chief Ben Brown says the cause of the fire at the Grand Bear Resort was accidental in nature. Brown says the fire was believed to be caused by an unattended charcoal grill on a porch. The investigation was completed on May 30th.

The fire destroyed seven cabins with four units in each cabin. Several vehicles were also torched. 57 fire departments were called to help put the fire out.

Correction: It was cabins from the Grand Bear Resort that caught fire. The lodge was unaffected.
