The United Way of Eastern LaSalle County’s new board chairman is Ottawa Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Jeff Hettrick. Hettrick says he was elected by other members at the United Way’s annual meeting Wednesday.
He says the organization wants to do a lot more this year which could include sponsoring therapy dogs to help school students with mental health. He says therapy dogs are a calming influence and will help the kids.
He also says the organization wants to try and bring in more volunteers for Labor of Love, the program that helps those need get improvements on their homes. He says with the pandemic, the organization wasn’t able to have as many in person meetings and not as many people could volunteer for Labor of Love.
Hettrick says he will still be the director of the chamber of commerce.
