Hunters in LaSalle County shot fewer turkeys this year than last. The Illinois Department of Natural Resources says the figures were 110 for LaSalle County last year and 95 this year. Hunters in neighboring counties shot more.
In Bureau County, the figures were 150 last year and 169 this year. In Grundy County, hunters shot 53 turkeys in 2021 and 61 in 2022. No figures were reported for Putnam County.
Statewide, turkey hunting totals were up from 13,613 to 13,701. There were almost six times as many turkey hunting permits taken out, so only about one is six hunters got any of the birds.
