Ottawa’s part of the Illinois and Michigan Canal that was reconfigured to hold water again may reopen next week. Remediation work has been going on for the past month and the city turned on the water to fill it again this week. The project has cost around $1.6 million.
When it opened last year, the water became swampy within weeks. It was supposed to have been designed so that didn’t happen. More work has been done to try to prevent that.
