Some people who own homes in four area communities will soon be able to apply for grants to repair and improve them. The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity is giving $550,000 each to Marseilles, Ottawa, Streator, and Spring Valley. Home owners could qualify for up to $50,000 each. Each city will soon announce who can apply and what the money can be used for. The state’s grant announcement says it’ll cover things like flooring, new appliances, plumbing and electrical work, and structural repairs.
