Wattage wallop! Ameren begins passing through higher electric supply rates

By WCMY News Jun 2, 2022 | 5:17 AM

A wattage wallop is coming. Ameren Illinois predicts customer bills will rise an average of $52 per month, because it’s costing more to buy electricity. The company says it’s not making a profit on that increase. It’s just passing through the cost other electric generators are charging. Spokesman Tucker Kennedy says you can do something.

Kennedy says it’s important to make careful decisions about the appliances you buy so you can save energy. And if you have wanted to start making your home or business more energy efficient, now’s the time.

Why is the rate going up so much? Kennedy says it’s a so-called perfect storm of less electric supply, higher demand, supply line troubles, inflation, and complications from the Russia-Ukraine war.
