The Oglesby City Council is deciding whether to add a business or a parking lot in the 200 block of E. Walnut St.The city council was going to place a property in the 200 block of E. Walnut St. up for sale Monday. Resident Kathy Frederick says there needs to be a parking lot on the east side because it would help the businesses.

She says she understands the city has to make money, but the east and west sides needs to be treated equally.

Commissioner Jason Curran says he understands why a parking lot could work, but some of the logic is flawed. He says the council is trying to revamp the city because there are a lot of empty businesses. But, if businesses were full then, why is parking an issue now?

After a motion from Curran to place the property up for sale, there was never a second motion, so the council didn’t pass it. Mayor Dominic Rivara says he can see it go both ways.

Commissioner Thomas Argubright says he thinks the parking lot is the best option.
