Ottawa Memorial Day events to return in full force and more

By WCMY News May 16, 2022 | 4:11 AM

The Ottawa Memorial Association is preparing a full ceremony for Memorial Day, which is in two weeks. Events were limited during the pandemic.

Association president Katie Troccoli says the first event will be a new one. It’ll be a ceremony at the Vietnam War memorial near Veterans Memorial Bridge. Then there’ll be the wreath drop from the Fox River Main St. bridge, followed by the parade to Washington Park.

At Washington Park, someone will read the names of area veterans who’ve died during the last year. There will also be a patriotism essay winner reading what he or she wrote.

The schedule for Monday, May 30, 2022:
8:15am – Vietnam Veterans Memorial at S. LaSalle St. and Woodward Memorial Dr.

9:00am – parade lineup starts on the Main St. Fox River Bridge.

9:15am – Navy memorial wreath drop from the bridge, followed by parade to Washington Park.

10:00am – ceremony in Washington Park, followed by a luncheon at the American Legion Post 33 on the other side of LaSalle St.
