Starved Rock Country marathon route announced

By WCMY News May 13, 2022 | 10:39 AM

The Starved Rock Country Marathon starts at 5:30 Saturday morning. Director Matt Skelly says runners will start at the Lone Buffalo in Ottawa and will cross over one lane of the Rt. 23 Bridge.

Runners will then turn onto Center St, then Guthrie St, College Ave, Adams St, and McKinley Rd, where runners will run around the Pembrook Subdivision. After that, Skelly says runners will turn on Dairy Lane, then on Adrienne Ave, then Adams St to Fosse Rd, and then turn left onto Rt. 71 heading west.

They will run to Starved Rock State Park up to IL 178 and back. The race ends at the area where Central School used to be. Westbound Rt. 71 will be closed to traffic during the entire marathon. But Skelly says other roads will reopen when all the runners have ran through different areas.

Traffic on LaSalle Street will also be diverted down to Clinton Street starting at Lafayette Street.

He says the marathon is one of twelve in the state and is all volunteer.
