 The White Sox completed a three-game sweep of the Red Sox with a 3-2 win in Boston. Jose Abreu had a two run double for the Sox, who won their sixth straight overall.

 

The Cubs’ losing streak is up to five in-a-row after getting swept by the Dodgers.  The North-Siders lost the finale 7-1, and were outscored 20-3 overall in the series.  The Cubs begin a six-game west coast road trip tonight in San Diego against the Padres.

 

The Cardinals lost 4-3 to the Giants, losing the final two in the series.  Juan Yepez hit his first home run for the Cards, who finished 3-and-3 on their road trip and will open up a three-game home series with the Orioles tomorrow.

 

The Chicago Fire’s struggles continue after a 4-1 loss at Atlanta in the MLS.   The Fire return home to host  Cincinnati this Saturday.

 

The Chicago Sky started the WNBA season with a home loss to the Sparks 98-91.  The Sky hosts New York on Wednesday.

 

Yesterday in the NBA playoffs, The Mavericks topped the Suns 111-101 at home and  The 76ers defeated the Heat 116-108 with bothe series tied at 2 a piece.  Tonight, the Bucks host the Celtics and the Warriors will face the Grizzlies.

 

In the NHL Playoffs, all four series are now tied up at two games apiece.  The Bruins cruised past the Hurricanes 5-2 in Boston, the Blues beat the Wild 5-2 in St. Louis, The Bolts blasted the Leafs 7-3 in Tampa, and the Kings crushed the Oilers 4-0 in L.A.   

 

Over in the PGA, Max Homa won the Well Fargo Championship. 

 

Joey Logano took home the checkered flag at the NASCAR Cup Series Race at Darlington on Sunday.  

 

80-1 long shot horse Rich Strike was the winner of the 148th Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs.

 

In local sports

 

Seneca hosted a three team event in softball. The Irish defeated Herscher 7-5 but lost to Morris 5-1. Highlights for Seneca on the day: Alyssa Zellars nailed a bases loaded triple, Zoe Hougas had two RBIs and Madi Mino batted  in a pair of runs.

 

Also in softball, Newark won a close one at home over Sandwich 6-5. Aubrey Cyr blasted a 3 run homer, Danica Peshia and Peyton Wohead both hit two-run homers with  Taylor Kruser pitching 8 strikeouts in the win.

 

The Newark baseball team also won at home over Sandwich 11-9. Lucas Pasakarnis had 3 RBIs,  Pitchers  Jake Kruser, Tegan Kruser and Joe Martin combined f0r 11 strikeouts in the victory.

 

The Ottawa JV team won the Interstate Eight Conference Tournament. Winners on the day for the Pirates,  Landon Thorsen, Aric Threadgill, Rylan Salas, Collin Olszewski, Alan Sifuentes, Ethan Farr, Landon Sawin and Tucker Ditchfield.
