Among the projects LaSalle County Board members are considering spending COVID-relief funds on is a security improvement at the county health department. Director Julie Kerestes would like safety glass, more locking doors, and cameras.

Kerestes says vaccine coolers have locking doors, but the room they’re in doesn’t. And visitors have easy, unescorted access to the entire place.

The estimated project cost is $30,000. Board member Douglas Trager says he has reservations about using money for that when the health department has $5 million on hand. Kerestes says the health department pays $5,000 per month in rent to the county, so she’s hoping her landlord helps.
