High School Baseball
Marquette dominated Seneca 12-0 at Masinelli Field. Pitcher Logan Nelson went 5 innings allowing only 1 hit with 8 strikeouts. On offense, Sam Mitre had two doubles and four RBIs.
Ottawa won a close one at home over Kaneland 6-5. Payton Knoll, Daniel Bruner and Rylan Dorsey all had RBIs with Dorsey going 5 innings with 9 strikeouts in the win.
LP won big at home over Morris 11-2. Julius Sanchez had a strong performance on the mound striking out 11 batters.
Other results in baseball. Serena lost at Somonauk 10-1 and Newark dominated their host IMSA 16-0 in 4 innings.
High School Softball
Marquette lost on the road at Seneca 6-5. Zoe Hougas nailed a solo homerun in the win.
Kaylee Killelea pitched 6 innings with 5 strikeouts in the loss.
Ottawa earned a road win over Morris 6-4 in 8 innings. McKenzie Oslanzi pitched all 8 innings with 13 strikeouts and Maura Condon homered and drove home two runs.
Streator had a home sweep over Lisle in a double-header, winning the opening game 12-2 and finishing 5-2 in game two. Pitchers Emma Augustine and Makenna Ondrey combined for 15 strikeouts.
Serena defeated the host Somonauk 9-1. Maddie Glade pitched a complete game with 12 strikeouts, also Paisley Twait nailed a home run and finished with three RBIs.
Newark dominated a home double-header over IMSA with game one 13-0 and then in game two 17-0. Pitchers Kodi Rizzo and Kaitlyn Schofield each threw a no-hitter. Schofield also blasted a homerun.
Track and Field
Marquette competed at the Putnam County Invite. In the boys division, Nate Kuykendall won the 100 meter dash.
For the girls winners were Lindsey Kuykendall in the 100 meter, Maggie Jewett in the 1600 meter, Maddy Howard for the 100 hurdles and Mary Jo Lechtenberg in the high jump.
Ottawa competed at the Geneseo Invite. Eva Heimsoth placed 2nd in the 3200 meter run. In 3rd place were Krisee Clark in the discus throw and Sara Meyer in the pole vault.
The Ottawa varsity tennis team lost to Dixon. Sebastian Cabrera won in singles and the team of Logan Goetsch and Ethan Cela were winners in doubles.
The JV squad defeated Dixon. Collin Olszewski won in singles and the duo of Alan Sifuentes – Ethan Farr, partners Trevor Mortenson – Aric Threadgill and the team of Landon Thorsen – Caden Walter all won in doubles.
The Streator girl soccer team lost at home to Reed-Custer 2-1. Joey Puetz scored the lone goal in the loss.
